- Research Data Cloud and Marine Data enhanced Virtual Laboratory project discussions, Meetings, December 2017
Previously reported (August 2017) –
The ANDS/NecTAR/RDS Alignment Plan identifies domain specific activity as an area of investment for 2017/18. AODN, representing IMOS in the marine domain, is negotiating proposals to develop the Marine Virtual Laboratory as a Date-enhanced Virtual Laboratory, and to scale up the Marine Science Cloud as the marine Research Data Cloud. Successful projects will receive funding for 12 months.
Both proposals were successful; during December the Head contract was signed and there were multiple meetings with partners to each of the projects including but not limited to Australian Antarctic Division, CSIRO, Geoscience Australia, Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN), Bureau of Meteorology, for project planning. Sub-contracting commenced and the project plans are to be submitted prior to the end of January 2018.
- Animal Tracking collaboration discussions, Meetings, December 2017
The Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) and Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) have agreed to work with international counterpart, the United States Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Animal Telemetry Network (ATN). During December a meeting was held between the groups to determine how a collaboration may work and also discuss processes to determine system development requirement and prioritisation of these developments. Further meeting to be held in February 2018.
- Helpdesk, Queries, December 2017
December was a quiet month for the AODN Helpdesk with only one new enquiry coming through regarding an error with automatic uploading of new data. December is usually a quiet month as Users and Contributors often finish up earlier to extend the standard festive break.
