The Queensland Acoustic Telemetry Arrays, funded by the Department of Environment and Science, Queensland provides the infrastructure to understand the distribution and movement of important marine species along the east coast of Queensland.
Queensland Acoustic Telemetry Arrays ceased operations in June 2023, however data is still available through the AODN Portal.

How it works
A network of acoustic receivers deployed along the coast of Queensland, including within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park augments the receivers already located in Queensland as part of the Animal Tracking Facility. The increased coverage of these new acoustic receivers provides the ability to track broad-scale movements of tagged marine animals and better inform species distribution and behaviour.
Why it’s important
The integration of this extended Queensland array within the large national network already supported by IMOS also provides the ability to detect movement of animals between state waters to inform species and fisheries management.
