Deep Water Waves – Qld
Deep Water Waves – Qld
The Deep Water waves sub-Facility monitors oceanic waves in deep water off the coast of Queensland. The Deep Water Waves sub-facility is funded by the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation, Queensland.
Deep Water Waves ceased operations in June 2023, however data is still available through the AODN Portal.
Why it’s important
Despite an extensive network of wave buoys exists along the Queensland coast, the addition of the Deep Water wave buoys extends this network beyond the coastal zone and provides valuable information on how waves transform from deep to shallow waters. The establishment of the Deep Water waves sub-Facility provides the first non-satellite observations of this important transition from deep-water to coastal waters.
