New leader for the South Australia IMOS Node

We welcome Dr Lachlan McLeay from the South Australian Research and Development Institute into the leadership team of the South Australia Node.

Lachlan is a senior marine scientist within the Fisheries Program at the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI).  His research is in the fields of fisheries ecology and stock assessment, as well as seabird population dynamics and habitat use.

Lachlan studied Marine Science at James Cook University before completing a PhD at the University of Adelaide in 2010. A key focus of his career has been to examine the link between ocean habitat characteristics and marine population dynamics.

In 2014, he joined SARDI as a research scientist and in his current role undertakes research relating to stock assessment of Western King Prawn, Southern Rock Lobster and Giant Crab, as well as leading projects relevant to South Australian seabird populations. His research actively uses IMOS observations from multiple facilities, in combination with IMOS ocean modelling capabilities, to deliver research outcomes to multiple stakeholders, including state government and the fisheries sectors.

Associate Professor Charlie Huveneers, of Flinders University, remains as the Deputy Director of the South Australia Node.

We thank the outgoing South Australia Node Leader Dr Ana Redondo Rodriguez.
