IMOS Biogeochemical data to be enhanced through CSIRO and AODN collaboration

CSIRO and the Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) will expand the range of IMOS Biogeochemical data products and deliver Biogeochemical data from new facilities to the AODN Portal through a collaborative database redevelopment project.

IMOS commissioned a project to increase the use and impact of IMOS Biogeochemical data.  The project will result in a robust and fully documented data management system for the IMOS Biogeochemical data, with a series of defined data products.  Code used and written will be open source, product metadata available and new collections and products readily available in the AODN Portal.

The collaboration aims to:

  • Combine relevant environmental variables in a single product,
  • Create pre-processed, analysis ready plankton abundance products,
  • Make the transfer of data from CSIRO to AODN more robust and flexible, with a clearly defined workflow for any necessary changes.
  • Establish a mechanism to keep data products up to date.

The project commenced during the last quarter of 2020 and is scheduled to run for the next 12-months. Contributors and users of the IMOS Biogeochemical data will receive additional communication throughout the progress of the project.
