Success for ANFOG Seaglider Trials off WA
Recent ANFOG Seaglider trials at the Perth Canyon, 50km off the coast of Perth, have drawn to a successful close.
During these trials, communications via Iridium satellites performed well, enabling realtime exchange of information between scientists stationed at the ANFOG operations centre on land and the gliders that were in the waters of the Perth Canyon. This allowed the Seagliders to be remotely trimmed by the WA scientists and piloted into graceful parabolic trajectories through the water column, where a range of water property measurements were continuously made. Upon each surfacing, the Seagliders immediately transmitted their full datasets back to the operations centre.
