Ten new CSIRO datasets can now be found on the AODN Portal.
Staff from the CSIRO have identified several valuable datasets, and together with AODN staff, have made these available on the AODN Portal. At the start of 2019, we reported that, as part of the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) funded Marine Research Data Cloud (RDC) program, work was undertaken to incorporate the CSIRO data trawler with the AODN Portal (see initial story here). This initial work has streamlined the integration of these new collections to the AODN Portal.
CSIRO O&A Wildlife Observations Overview
This dataset collection includes wildlife observations during voyages of various CSIRO research vessels and other surveys. Observations cover birds, seals, cetaceans and ad-hoc observations of turtles and sea snakes.
CSIRO O&A Sediment sampling sites Overview (1986 to present)
This dataset collection documents sediment sampling during voyages of various CSIRO research vessels, using sleds, dredges, grabs and corers.
CSIRO O&A Current Meter Mooring Data Overview (1983 – 1998)
This dataset collection includes data collected from 1983 to 1998 using moored current meters deployed at various locations around Australia and in the Southern Ocean.
CSIRO O&A RV Southern Surveyor XBT Data Overview (2007- 2012)
This dataset collection contains the processed Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) data collected on Australia’s Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Southern Surveyor between 2007 and 2012. XBT data typically comprises temperature and depth readings relayed to the surface at intervals of 0.1 seconds as the probe passes through the top few hundred metres of the ocean.
CSIRO O&A Catch Operations Data Overview (1965 – present)
This data collection currently includes information on samples collected since 1965 during voyages of various CSIRO research vessels. The data includes information about the time, location depth and catch method (trawl net etc) for each operation, metrics of catch (weight composition etc) and species and specimen details.
CSIRO O&A Acoustic Doppler Current Profile (ADCP) Data Overview (1987 – present)
This dataset collection contains the processed Acoustic Doppler Current Profile (ADCP) data collected on Australia’s Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Franklin, RV Southern Surveyor and Investigator from 2007 to present.
CSIRO O&A RV Franklin XBT Data Overview (1986-2002)
This dataset collection contains the processed Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) data collected on Australia’s Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Franklin between 1986 and 2002. XBT data typically comprises temperature and depth readings relayed to the surface at intervals of 0.1 seconds as the probe passes through the top few hundred metres of the ocean.
CSIRO O&A Marine National Facility Voyage Tracks Overview (1986 – present)
This dataset collection displays the voyage tracks derived from underway GPS data collected since 1986 by Australia’s Marine National Facility (MNF) during research voyages. For most of these voyages, five minute underway digital data is available. The underway data set typically includes GPS location, sea surface salinity and temperature, and meteorology station data. Later voyages also recorded digital echo sounder data.
CSIRO O&A RV Investigator XBT Data Overview (2014 onwards)
This dataset collections contains the processed Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) data collected on Australia’s Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator from 2014 to present. XBT data typically comprises temperature and depth readings relayed to the surface at intervals of 0.1 seconds as the probe passes through the top few hundred metres of the ocean.
RV Investigator ISAR/SST Sea Surface Temperature Data Overview (2014 onwards)
This dataset collection describes the infrared SST autonomous radiometer (ISAR) Sea Surface Temperature data (SST) collected on the RV Investigator voyages from 2014 onwards.
The AODN thanks the staff at the CSIRO for assistance in making these collections available. For any feedback or assistance in data retrieval please contact info(at)aodn.org.au.
