IMOS has a network of acidification moorings that measure the CO2 of the ocean’s surface and atmosphere, and the AODN team have recently updated the data collections from these moorings.
The IMOS Acidification Moorings sub-facility is responsible for building an ocean carbon and acidification monitoring network for Australian waters, and the near real-time acidification moorings data collection has recently undergone significant updates.
This data collection is comprised of near real-time measurements of surface C02 adjacent to three of the IMOS National Reference Stations (NRS) sites, Kangaroo Island – South Australia, Maria Island – Tasmania, Yongala – Queensland (Historical) as well as a site located adjacent to the Heron Island reef slope, in the Wistari channel on the Great Barrier Reef. The observations include C02 concentration in the air and water, surface water temperature and salinity.
Recent enhancements to the collection have resulted in the structure and content of the near real-time netCDF files becoming consistent with the delayed mode files, as well as the near real-time files now have some automated quality control applied (previously they were raw).
How to access the data:
The IMOS – ANMN Acidification Moorings (AM) Sub Facility – Automatically quality-controlled near real-time data collection found on the AODN Portal, provides access to only data with the newly produced NetCDF file format which includes the automated QC.
All of the original format files for this collection can be found on the AODN data server, alongside the new format files. This includes the historical data from the Yongala NRS site which was replaced in September 2013 after Tropical Cyclone Yasi, and then decommissioned in August 2014. To determine the newly reprocessed files simply look for FV01 in the filename, as well as the exclusion of the word “raw”.
