Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) Notebooks

These Notebooks are useful for handling, plotting and analysing IMOS data.

Jupyter Notebook is an open-source web application that allows the creation and sharing of notebook documents that contain live code, equations, visualisations and narrative text.

A notebook document contains all the content from the Jupyter Notebook web application session, which includes the inputs and outputs of computations, mathematics, images, and explanatory text.

There are currently five notebooks that the AODN Team have authored, these are published in the IMOS-User-Code Library Github repository where a multitude of “ready to go code” can be found, the Jupyter notebooks are designed to be useful for handling, plotting and analysing IMOS-AODN data.

AODN notebook

The first notebook, produced in 2019 compares two different datasets that can be obtained from the AODN Portal. The datasets being from the Reef Life Survey (RLS) and the SST Atlas of Australian Regional Seas (SSTAARS) climatology, for more detailed information see the story published here, or head to Github to start using the RLS_STAARS_example

IMOS Moorings notebooks

The remaining notebooks have been produced in conjunction with the new IMOS Moorings Products created by the AODN in particular the Hourly Time Series product and the Gridded Temperature Time Series product.

  • For the Hourly Time Series product the Python notebook can be found here, and the version for R found here.
  • For the Gridded Time Series product the Python notebook can be found here and the version for R found here.

These notebooks were designed to foster the uptake of the IMOS moorings data products by streamlining exploration, manipulation and plotting of the new moorings products.  They can be easily imported into Jupyter notebook and customised where required.
