Data quality to be improved with the inclusion of a new Quality Control test – IMOS MATLAB Toolbox release, version 2.6.9
A new quality control (QC) test to automatically detect artificial artefacts (spikes) in time-series data is a significant feature included in the IMOS Toolbox version 2.6.9. These artefacts reduce the quality of the measurements and require attention by scientists. When used as a part of the data ingestion, the test improves the quality of the data delivered to the AODN.
The availability of the test in interactive and automatic mode of the new component allows live change (tune) of the detection methods (parameters) and real-time visualisation of the results. More information about the spike functionality is in our wiki page.
Data ingestion from more than five different instruments, changes in deployment metadata fields, increased test coverage, and several bugfixes are also included in the release. The complete list of changes included in release version 2.6.9 can be found in the IMOS Toolbox GitHub repository here.
The IMOS MATLAB Toolbox, utilised by the IMOS National Moorings Network, provides an automated and easy to use interface for converting raw ocean instrument data into IMOS compliant, and quality controlled netCDF files. It may be used as a desktop application or a library within a MATLAB environment and is available for Windows and Linux operating environments.
Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) and IMOS National Mooring Network facility staff manage and prioritise the development of the IMOS Toolbox with an established working group. The Toolbox code is available in GitHub and is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v3, with contributions to the code encouraged.
