The annual Mooring Facility quality control Summit meeting is coming up in June

This annual meeting is one of a series seeking to improve and where possible standardise QA and QC across the Moorings sub-facilities through common techniques, procedures and tools.

It allows scientific, technical and operational staff – that is those actively involved in collecting and quality controlling the data – to get together to discuss the issues, swap methods and network to produce better data.

The first two days are very much hands on training, inter-calibrating of techniques by the biogeochemical field samplers and laboratory processors.

Days 3 and 4 will focus on the time series data streams from the instrumented moorings. We are looking to improve and standardise the use of the IMOS moorings QC toolbox across the sub-facilities. Example troublesome data sets will be worked through – with a goal of producing a practical toolbox user manual.

An additional focus this year will include a review of how best we can implement the production of long term time series products that will better service the research and wider user community. Approaches will vary for the different data types: from monthly water samples and CTD profiles to scalar, vector and profiling moored sensor time series. There will be an assessment of what tools already exist and then a discussion to work out what developments are then needed to be worked on in collaboration with the AODN.

We are excited to have speakers and attendees from various operators across Australia, including CSIRO, the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), the University of Tasmania, the University of NSW, the University of Western Australia and of course the hosts South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI).
