Here are 3 simple tips – one for each step of the AODN Portal that could make use easier and more efficient.
Step 1 Hint - Control Click, Data Collection Selection
If more than one collection is required, on Step 1, rather than clicking the Select button of each collection being taken to step 2 and then needing to click back to step 1 to add the next collection, simply hold down the Control key whilst clicking to add multiple collections at step 1 before progressing to step 2.
Step 2 Hint - Links to Supplementary Resources
At Step 2, for each collection, there are three (3) additional Tabs containing collection specific information. The “Info” Tab displays information retrieved from the collectino metadata record. Links to various online resources related to the data collection can be found at the bottom of the tab.
Each collection has a link to the Point of truth URL of the metadata record for the collection. The remaining links are customised to each collection. They include useful documentation in the User Guide, relevant websites such as project home pages and access links to obtaining the data directly via THREDDS catalog or AWS S3 service. Direct data access is particularly useful for large datasets that are required un-sub-setted.
To access the Info Tab on Step 2 select the collection title from the left menu bar and underneath the grey bar the "info" tab sits between the “Subset” tab and “Layer” tab.
Step 3 Hint - Share Collection
It is possible to both save search time and share a data collection with someone by using the ‘share link’ option found on Step 3 of the AODN Portal. Rather than searching each time for a particular collection save a copy of the ‘share link’ for direct access, launching the collection at Step 2.
These and other hints and tips can be found in the AODN Portal User Guide.
