The objectives of the work in SE Queensland is to examine the effectiveness of marine protected areas by surveying inside and outside of protected waters off the coast of Moreton Island. This site was selected as it is in close proximity to the Stradbroke Island moorings site and represents one of the northern most extents of kelp forests on the east coast of Australia. Dive sites were selected inside and outside of a green zone offshore of Moreton Island.
A broad grid was completed at each site and three dense grids completed in each of the depth bands 15-20m, 20-25m and 25-30m. Surveys at Moreton Island began in 2010 and have continued on an annual basis.
