Ocean warming on the rise (CSIRO media release)

The top few hundred metres of the world's oceans have warmed 50 per cent faster than previously thought during the past half century.

A new study led by Brazilian born Dr Catia Domingues along with other Australian and US researchers, was published today in the journal Nature, it has found that the world's oceans warmed and rose at a rate 50% faster in the last four decades of the 20th century than documented in the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report.

The research gives significantly greater credibility to the way climate models simulate the degree of warming in the world
