From 13th March 2009 IMOS / eMII has had its own anonymous FTP site for data upload and download. The address is:
or, if accessing via a command line: ftp emii2.its.utas.edu.au
Login is 'anonymous' and password is <your email address>
Example: marine.researcher@utas.edu.au
The FTP site can currently accommodate 500GB of data.
Data upload to FTP site:
Data can be uploaded to the FTP site and placed in the directory 'uploads'. Data cannot be viewed from this directory or deleted.
Data can only be uploaded as a single level structure, i.e. a file. If a directory structure is required, this must be tar'd and zip'd prior to uploading.
Data download from FTP site:
Data can be viewed and downloaded from the 'pub' directory. 'pub' can also accommodate hierarchical directory structures. Users cannot upload data to 'pub'.
Data transfer from 'uploads' to 'pub':
If the data in 'uploads' is required to be made available from the 'pub' directory an eMII staff member will carry out the copy procedure and expand any directory structure. Anyone uploading data which they wish to be made public should send an email to info(at)emii.org.au asking for their data to be transferred to 'pub'.
Example:
1. Directory /data/data1/data2/testfile should be tar'd and zip'd into a single file called data.tar.gz.
2. This is uploaded to 'uploads'.
3. Email info(at)emii.org.au to ask for data to be transferred to 'pub'
4. eMII copy data.tar.gz across to 'pub' and unzip, untar the file to create directory structure.
Data transfer email request:
Subject: eMII Anonymous FTP
Message: Please transfer my data <filenames> from 'uploads' to 'pub'.
