Bio Argo

Recent developments in sensor technology have enabled profiling floats to be equipped with small, low-power sensors that measure bio-optical and bio-geochemical properties. Currently the following parameters can be measured; fluorescence, optical backscattering, and attenuation coefficients that allow an estimation of Particulate Organic Carbon (POC) and Coloured Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM).

Currently Bio Argo floats are not part of the core Argo mission and these floats are regarded as “Argo Equivalent” which require additional funding support from outside the Argo program.
