Globally, 800 floats need to be deployed each year to maintain the Argo array at the desired design density of one float every 3 × 3 degrees.

IMOS, through its support of Argo Australia has committed to deploying 50 floats per year to maintain the Argo array in the Australasian region and in the Southern Ocean.
