In order to deploy and successfully recover acoustic units from the ocean in water too deep to use conventional diving methods AATAMS along with Paul Watts from aquatic services developed a mooring system using acoustic release devices. This system allows scientists to create lines of receivers capturing animal movements in previously unworkable environments. This system also means that everything we place in the ocean can be recovered and removed from the ocean at any time reducing the negative impact on our oceans.
